I enjoyed this movie. See the difference with the script and the movie.
In the movie, they stopped when Joel and Clementine found out that they had a history together, and yet they want to try again.

While in the original charlie kaufman script, Joel and Clementine kept doing things over and over again, living together for two-three years, and then they both have their memories erased again, until everybody become old. Even the doctor and Mary(kirsten dunst) became old. It became a pattern, a never ending pattern of finding love, then losing patience, and then thinking you want to give up everything, and then when you're alone again you yearn for that companion, and you're willing to try again, for love. In conclusion - you can never fool your heart - they just have to learn that in a relationship, like any other things - it needs work.
